Teacher Directions

Before Player Visit

Teachers deliver the attached lesson plan aligned to Common Core State

Standards including student writing & speaking. Students will prepare for the player visit by writing about their goals to discuss with the player during his visit. It can be informal writing, but the goal is for them to be prepared to share. Player visits will now be done virtually via the Zoom platform used by your school or district.

During Player Visit

Via Zoom, the visiting player begins by connecting to students' prior knowledge discussing Sam Hairston's 3 success strategies. Then shares his story of how he uses his own success strategy. Students share their goals. This is aligned to written and oral expression Common Core Academic Standards. Lastly, there is time for photos & autographs. Keep in mind, the bulk of the time is spent by students sharing. This is an active learning experience for all.

After Player Visit

Students compose personal narratives of how they'll apply what they learned.

Narratives picked up by our staff & delivered to the player, or emailed to us if the visit was done virtually via Zoom.

Success is achieved!
